Canada Research Chairs

Minna Woo, Endocrinology and Metabolism, Renewed Tier 2 Canada Research Chair in Signal Transduction in Diabetes Pathogenesis 
Dr. Woo's research looks at the contribution of liver, fat or brain tissue to insulin resistance, and is discovering ways to promote increased insulin production. Her work could lead to new strategies in prevention and treatment of the growing diabetes epidemic.

Rulan Parekh, Nephrology, Tier 1 Canada Research Chair in Chronic Kidney Disease Epidemiology
The focus of Dr. Parekh’s research is to study risk factors, both clinical and genetic, leading to progression of chronic kidney and cardiovascular disease. She has published over 90 peer reviewed manuscripts and book chapters, and leads projects sponsored by both NIH and Canadian Institute for Health Research.

The Annual Achievement Award was created in recognition of Canadians who have made outstanding contributions in their career within the cardiovascular field.

Jacob Udell, Young Investigator Award Clinical Science Runner-Up
The Young Investigator Award in Clinical Science is presented to a young investigator whose clinical or basic science activities are in the area of cardiovascular disease.

Canadian Society of Echocardiography

Chi-Ming Chow, Annual Achievement Award
This award recognizes Canadian cardiologists who have made significant contributions to echocardiography in terms of leadership, teaching or research.
